Free Lessons

Every student who rents or purchases an instrument from Summerhays Music receives two free one-on-one private lessons at The Best in Music Education Center, located right here in our Orem store. These lessons give students the expert guidance they simply can’t get in a classroom setting — helping them build confidence, develop good habits, and experience early success. Learning an instrument is challenging, but starting with personalized instruction from professional teachers gives students the best possible chance to enjoy it, improve quickly, and stick with it for the long haul.

Summerhays Instrument Launch

We created Summerhays Instrument Launch in partnership with legendary Utah music educator John Miller, and powered by his company, Connect through Music. This exclusive online video course is the ultimate resource for beginning musicians. Each instrument-specific course covers the essential first steps — including how to assemble and hold your instrument, and produce your first sounds — all taught by trusted local professional educators. It’s everything a new musician needs to start with confidence and success. And best of all, it’s included free with every rental or purchase from Summerhays Music.

S.E. Shires – Trombones and Trumpets

• Founded in 1995, S.E. Shires has built a reputation for crafting some of the finest custom trombones in the world — blending modern manufacturing with old-world craftsmanship under their motto: “Quality without compromise.” Their instruments have become the standard among professionals, with the Utah Symphony performing exclusively on S.E. Shires trombones. Now, for the first time ever, S.E. Shires is launching a student-level trombone — and it’s available exclusively at Summerhays Music. Wm. S. Haynes - Flutes

• Founded in 1888 by brothers William and George Haynes, the Haynes Company revolutionized flute design with innovations like the drawn tonehole — now a near-universal standard in modern flute making. Today, Haynes remains the premier Boston-based flute maker, trusted and loved by professional flutists around the world. Backun - Clarinets

• Founded in 2000 by clarinetist Morrie Backun, Backun began as a boutique maker of custom clarinet barrels and bells. Since then, it has grown into one of the world’s most respected clarinet manufacturers — known for bold innovations, precision craftsmanship, and a deep passion for the science of sound. Their Alpha Series student clarinet is widely praised for offering professional-level tone and feel from day one, giving beginning clarinetists the best opportunity to succeed. Willson - Euphoniums

Bach Mouthpieces for Every Trumpet & Trombone

The Vandoren Traditional “Blue Box” reed is the most widely played reed among professionals worldwide — praised for its clarity, flexibility, and quick response. And now, it’s included free with every clarinet and saxophone rental at Summerhays. That means every student can start with the sound and feel trusted by professionals.

For clarinetists, we’re taking it even further: in addition to our respected Fobes Debut + Yamaha, and Backun + Protégé programs, all other clarinets will now come with a Yamaha 4C mouthpiece — a high-quality student model trusted by educators for its tone, quality, and consistency. It’s one more way we’re making sure young musicians have the best possible foundation.

One Contract = Double the Benefits

At Summerhays Music, we believe families shouldn’t have to choose between building trade credit and avoiding extra costs. That’s why, unlike our competitors, our rental contract for the Big Five instruments — trumpet, clarinet, trombone, flute, and alto saxophone — includes both:

• 100% of the first 12 payments can be applied as trade credit toward an upgraded instrument from the largest inventory of step-up and pro-level brass and woodwinds in the Mountain West — including specialty instruments like flugelhorn, French horn, and cornet.
