Summerhays Music of Orem is the largest independent Music Retailer in Utah County, servicing from Eagle Mountain, down to St. George. A full-service shop, including a repair shop, recital hall, and teaching studio, Summerhays focuses on band and orchestra instruments and accessories. Summerhays Music of Orem is the only local music retailer to carry a comprehensive range of student, step-up, and professional instruments, including purchase and rental options.

As a NAMM Top 100 Dealer, Summerhays Music specializes in pianos, keyboards, band instruments, and orchestral strings. It also offers one of the largest selections of brass and woodwind instruments in the Western United States. The store emphasizes hands-on experience, allowing customers to compare and select instruments from many of the industry’s top brands and models.

 

Although instrument sales and rentals are core to our business, our mission is to support musicians and music educators. We achieve these goals by hosting over 200 local educational events and clinics each year, as well as offering the most flexible rental contract for student instruments, so that anyone can have the equipment they need to succeed in band or orchestra. We also work directly with over 100 local band and orchestra programs, to best support their programs and meet their needs.

Band Sales Manager

Role Description:

​

Summerhays Music is seeking a driven, detail-oriented Band Sales Manager to lead our band instrument sales operations. This role is responsible for generating sales and rentals of woodwind and brass instruments, guiding and training our sales team, purchasing and monitoring inventory, overseeing our band rental program, and driving the success of our annual MusicFest sale.

What We Are Looking For:

We’re looking for someone who takes ownership and initiative: a self-starter who genuinely cares about their work, their team, and the musicians we serve. The right candidate will be proactive, curious, and committed to continual improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

​

  • Sales of student, intermediate, and professional woodwind, brass, and strings instruments on the sales floor, answering phone calls, and assisting all in-store customers.

  • Lead, train, and manage a team of sales staff to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction and product knowledge.

  • Oversee and maintain the largest inventory of band instruments in the state of Utah, including customer and school pricing, purchasing and stocking, and ensuring product quality and playability.

  • Act as the main contact for our manufacturers such as Eastman, Yamaha, Conn-Selmer, and more.

  • Collaborate with our team of educational representatives to develop and maintain strong relationships with school music programs, including managing competitive school bids, purchase orders, and billing.

  • Design and implement marketing initiatives and customer engagement strategies that drive sales growth.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

​

  • Background in customer service.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Proficient in a brass, woodwind, or percussion instrument.

  • Proven ability to manage projects and collaborate across departments.

  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office.

  • Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.

  • Friendly, personable, and able to develop and foster positive relationships
    in the music community.

  • Experience in sales or customer service.

  • Ability to work retail hours, including evenings and Saturdays.

  • Ability to travel and stay overnight a few nights a year.

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

  • Ability to lift and carry boxes and instruments of all weights and sizes.

Piano Sales Specialist

Location: 5420 S. Green Street Murray, Utah 84123 

Full-Time 

 

Role Description:

 

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Piano Sales Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in piano performance and a passion for helping musicians find the perfect instrument. The Piano Sales Specialist will generate sales for pianos and keyboards, provide expert advice to customers, and proactively engage with the piano community in Utah. They will also be responsible for processing customer transactions, maintaining the store's inventory, and completing other duties as assigned. This is an on-site role located in Murray, UT 

 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

​

  • Carry out strategy and brand goal directives of SMC 

  • Generate sales by proactively engaging with customers and the local piano community. 

  • Provide the best customer service to meet and increase sales goals. 

  • Help maintain displays and inventory of pianos and keyboards. 

  • Organize and participate in in-store events, workshops, and demonstrations to promote pianos and engage with the community. 

  • Build and maintain relationships with piano manufacturers and vendors. 

  • Develop and maintain productive, effective, and professional relationships with Summerhays staff and management. 

  • Provide support for sales staff and sales activities at Summerhays. 

  • Stay current on music industry trends and products. 

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

​

  • Passionate about music with a strong background and experience in playing and/or teaching piano. 

  • Degree in Piano Performance or another music-related field (preferred, but not required) 

  • Prior retail or sales experience preferred, ideally in a music setting. 

  • Friendly, personable, and able to develop and foster positive relationships in
    the music community. 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 

  • Well-organized and have excellent attention to detail. 

  • Must be able to work Saturdays. 

  • Knowledge of string instruments and their accessories 

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team. 

  • Able to lift and carry instruments and boxes of all weights and sizes. 

  • Proficiency with a brass, woodwind, or orchestral string instrument is a plus.

String Repair Technician/Luthier

Role Description:

Summerhays Music of Orem is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented String Repair Technician/Luthier to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in evaluating, repairing, and maintaining string instruments. This role involves repairing instruments for in-store customers and local schools, along with setting up and maintaining company-owned instruments to ensure they are in optimal playing condition.

Key Responsibilities:

​

  • Evaluate and repair orchestral string instruments brought in by customers.

  • Evaluate and repair string instruments brought in from local schools.

  • Perform regular maintenance and repair on company-owned rental instruments to keep them in excellent condition.

  • Inspect and set up new instruments for store stock, ensuring they meet quality standards before being sold.

  • Maintain company equipment and workspace in good order, ensuring a clean, organized, and safe working environment.

  • Customer Interaction: Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with customers about their repair needs and offering professional advice.

  • Keep detailed records of repairs, estimates, maintenance tasks, and inventory management.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience with string repair or instrument making

  • Strong knowledge of orchestral string instruments, repair techniques, and materials.

  • Excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail.
